How Kate Middleton and Prince William Have Prepared Prince George for His Future Role as King

Kate Middleton and Prince William have been preparing their twelve-year-old son, Prince George, for his future role as King.

Kate and William Increased George’s Public Appearances In 2025

The royal couple has really stepped it up this year in bringing George to royal events and engagements.

While the Prince and Princess of Wales’s children typically join their parents for a handful of public appearances every year, Kate Middleton and Prince William still want to provide their kids with as normal a childhood as possible.

However, in 2025, they began increasing George’s high-profile royal engagements without his siblings, and the young prince has demonstrated great poise and confidence alongside his mother and father.

The goal is to introduce him to these outings gradually so he understands his future role as monarch and gains the experience he will need for official royal duties.

He attended the VE Day tea party at Buckingham Palace and visited the homeless charity, The Passage, with his father, William.

George is following not only in his father’s footsteps but also in his late grandmother’s, as Princess Diana instilled in William a desire to help the less fortunate.

It’s a tradition William has carried on since his mother passed away. William and George helped prepare meals and pack care packages.

According to Daily Mail correspondent Richard Fitzwilliams,

“George is making more appearances at events of a particular significance in a bid to acclimate the future heir to the throne and all the attention without overwhelming him.”

Fitzwilliams explained to the Daily Mail,

“From the beginning, William and Catherine have prioritized privacy. As George grows older, he is making more appearances at events of particular significance, especially those with links to the armed military and sport.”

His Parents Want To Keep George Grounded, But Also Ensure His Future

Weeks prior to his twelfth birthday, Prince William and Kate Middleton took George to a tea party at Buckingham Palace for World War II veterans to honor the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Fitzwilliams also added that George was

“clearly fascinated by the stories he heard from the veterans.” He continued, “As future King, he will undoubtedly see service in the armed forces.”

The royal expert said, “Privately, his parents have schooled him to be part of the military tradition, which goes back hundreds of years. Queen Elizabeth famously said, ‘I must be seen to be believed.’ And an appearance on certain state occasions by George is now expected.”

His parents want to keep George grounded but also take steps to ensure his future. This progressive strategy aligns with Prince William’s recent comments about his own approach to the monarchy.

The Prince of Wales has been candid that change will be on his agenda, while emphasizing that family will remain paramount.

This past year also marked George’s debut at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall alongside Kate and King Charles.

Kate has stressed, however, that she doesn’t want to “push” George too much. The editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine told The Telegraph,

“William is doing what he can to get George to look at the world a certain way.”

    She continued,

“You can see how good George was with those soldiers. He wants to do all these things. And William is happy for him to have a taste of it, but not the full meal.”
