It looks like Hilary Duff and the powers to be at Disney just weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. The Hollywood actress recently opened up about the reason why the Lizzie McGuire revival didn’t come about, suggesting that she perhaps didn’t like the direction that Disney wanted to take with her former character. Here’s what she has to say.
Hilary Duff starred in the title role of the Disney series, Lizzie McGuire. During an appearance on the Jess Cagle Show, Hilary hinted that it just didn’t work out between her and the producers of the show.

She said, “I think they are really trying to figure out what kind of content they want living on Disney+, and that doesn’t totally align with, like, where I see Lizzie right now. I’m very protective of her and they’re very protective of her.”
Hilary also said that she was hoping to take the show in a more adult direction that Disney would be comfortable. She was also hoping that Disney would move the show from Disney Plus to Hulu, where the show could push the envelope a little bit more.
She added, “The one thing for me was just the way that she could connect with what was going on in people that were watching the show. And so, for me, it only makes sense to me to shoot a show where she’s acting like a 30-year-old in a modern world.”
Unfortunately, the project got squashed altogether.
“There [were] a lot of creative discussions where maybe they were thinking that’s not quite right, and we were trying to make it work,” Hilary further explained. “And, you know, there’s always, like, lots of conversations, but I don’t think it’s going to be happening.”
