A headmistress of a Church of England school, which was honoured with the Princess Diana anti-bullying award, was accused of tyrannising her female colleagues.

Mahzia Hart was prohibited from teaching at the Academy of Trinity C of E VC School, for intimidating pregnant co-workers. During her tenure as head of the school, it was given an exceptional rating and she herself was recognised with numerous accolades, including an esteemed Pride of Britain honour in 2008 for her pioneering work in a disadvantaged region.

Hart had allegedly told one worker “to ignore her illness, to get on with it [and] to stop flaunting her bump to parents.” Not only that, but when Hart was told that one of her colleagues was sick, she apparently said: “All this being tired will not wash with me, it needs to change, just because you are pregnant.”

Just when you thought that was bad enough, it was also claimed that she had made a number of damning remarks to other members of staff, including telling one that she was a “15 tonne whale.”

It is fair to say that Hart’s reputation had been damaged. This is despite the fact that Hart asserted that she had been the subject of a plot and denied all the allegations that had been made against her. Subsequent to being barred, she declared that she was waiting to clarify matters at the High Court trial next year.

Paul Hawkins, who happened to chair the hearing, had this to say: “The panel found that Mrs Hart was guilty of abusing her position of trust towards staff. The panel was satisfied by the evidence presented that Mrs Hart had displayed a deep-seated attitude that led to harmful and bullying behaviour towards staff.”

This is clearly not a very good look for the school, nor Hart, which is why some action had to be taken in order to address it.  So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
