Mortal Kombat is a franchise beloved by millions. From its early days as one of the most controversial video games ever, to the blockbuster film, series, and more, fans have been anxiously awaiting a new edition to the film franchise.

When James Wan was first tapped to produce the reboot of the classic film, fans were delighted to hear a horror director would be taking on the role of a producer, and from the looks of the trailer, we’ll be getting exactly what we wanted.

Watch the trailer below that was uploaded with the following description,

“MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan) is unaware of his heritage – or why Outworld’s Emperor seeks to hunt him down. Cole finds sanctuary under Lord Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high-stakes battle for the universe. Will Cole be able to unleash his arcana in time to stop the Outworld once and for all?”

The film looks to bring a gritty and gory telling of the franchise to the big screen, something that wasn’t there with the original. While the 1995 Robin Shue film is still beloved by fans, it’s due to its cheese and nostalgia factor. Something I know all too well being a fan myself.

However, this will bring the video game’s violence and gore to the screen in a big way and fans are losing their minds because of it.

“Ice blood from Sub-Zero the best moment of this trailer.”, “I want Somebody to say ” Fatality ” after every Brutal kill.”, “HBO Max woke up and chose violence.”, “I love that it’s actually getting into the batshit insanity of the games in this movie. It’s gonna be amazing” and “So glad that they are making this rated R. The fatalities will hopefully look sick,” were just some of the comments on the trailer from fans.
