They might be one of the most popular mega bands in the world, but according to K-Pop stars BTS, even they aren’t immune to racism. BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band that began formation in 2010 and have seen their popularity skyrocket in recent years thanks to their catchy tunes and mega worldwide following.

But at the same time, they’ve unfortunately experienced racism on many occasions and is why they are joining the #StopAsianHate movement. Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, BTS are speaking out about their experience with racial discrimination as anti-Asian violence continues to rise in the United States.

BTS wrote that they felt “anger and pain” over the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes and in wake of the deadly Atlanta, Georgia spa shooting, that left eight victims, including six Asian women, dead.

“We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English,” the band said in a Twtitter statement on Tuesday.

“We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason.”

As many know by now, Anti-Asian attacks have increased dramatically across the United States during the Covid-19 pandemic.

BTW described being the targets of such “hatred and violence” as difficult to put into words, but “inconsequential” compared with recent events, among them the stabbing of a Chinese man in New York’s Chinatown last month.

The said “these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem.”

The K-pop stars – composed of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook – added, “We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respect. We will stand together.”
