The sci-fi classic ‘Buck Rogers’ is going to be coming back again and this time has a big name star attached to the project to breathe new life into the show. George Clooney has joined the limited series as an executive producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While there’s nothing about him actually acting in the film, it could be a great opportunity for the veteran actor.
Legendary is developing the series and will be written by Brian K. Vaughan.
Buck Rogers first appeared in the sci-fi magazine Amazing Stories in 1928 as a veteran who falls into a coma and wakes up in the 25th century. A popular comic strip followed, along with a radio series and a 12-part movie serial.
George Clooney To Produce ‘Buck Rogers’ Reboot – Could He Star As Buck Rogers?
The most recent screen outing for the character was in 1979, with ‘Buck Rogers in the 25th Century’. It’s a campy cult-classic that starred Gil Gerard as an astronaut who was frozen in space for more than 500 years.
With Clooney coming off of his dystopian Netflix film ‘Midnight Sky’, this could be a fun and entertaining role for him should he want to do it. If not, we’re sure with Clooney producing that they will find the perfect man for the job.
There’s still not a ton of information about the reboot. Will it maintain its campiness and cult classic style or could they take a more serious approach to the series. We’ll have to wait and find out, but hopefully, it’ll stay true to the source and not take itself too seriously, that’s the worst thing a reboot can do.
