‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers reveal that Kelly Thiebaud has been selected for a Daytime Emmy. This would be for her miraculous portrayal of Britt Westbourne.

The talented actress is no stranger to winning. She accepted the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Drama Series 2022. Soap Opera Digest caught up with Kelly and discussed her reaction to being nominated.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Kelly’s Nomination for Best Supporting Actress

Kelly talks about where she was and what she was doing when the announcements were made about who was nominated,

“I was in New York at the time. I was going uptown to visit a girlfriend on the Upper East Side. I was having the best time riding through Central Park. I didn’t know exactly where my friend lived, so I checked the maps on my phone and saw all these text messages. I parked my bike and checked some of the messages. The first one I read was congratulations on your nomination! I was just so over the moon excited.”

Thiebaud said that she submitted the scenes between Britt and her mother, Liesel Obrecht (Kathleen Gati), when Britt was first diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. It was a gut-wrenching scene.

She also submitted some scenes with Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth). The two of them were fantastic on-screen. Many fans wanted Austin and Britt to explore a romantic relationship, but it never happened.

Ironically, Kelly’s time as Britt on GH when she returned in 2020 was supposed only to be temporary, but then the show was planning on pairing her with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), but Steve left the show. She wanted to stay for the love story they had designed for the two of them.

When asked how she felt about being nominated, the actress replied, It’s a very special thing.” She said that many times in this business, people go through their whole careers being unrecognized, and it was an honor just to be nominated.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: We Lost Britt Too Soon

GH fans lost Britt too soon, as the character not only had Huntington’s disease that was rapidly progressing, but she also had an encounter with the hook killer that ended her life.

Britt’s final scenes with her mother were heartbreaking, but it would have been nice if Britt left town with an open for a return.

'General Hospital' Spoilers Britt is dying Liesel saying goodbye

The actress has said she left General Hospital to pursue other projects. As long as a character isn’t killed off, there is always a chance they can return.

That being said, death is never final on a soap. Britt could turn out to have had a twin, and the one who died was Britt’s sister. Sound far-fetched? If Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) can have an Alex Devane, Britt could have a Bridget Westbourne, a Brianna Westbourne, or whatever “B” name works.

Britt could have also been away for so long because she was receiving experimental treatment for her illness, and it worked. Britt was a force of nature, and her presence on the show has been greatly missed.

Kelly was on the show until January 2023. Watch the Daytime Emmy Awards to see if Kelly wins on CBS on Friday, December 15th.
