‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal that some GH cast members recently dished to Soap Opera Digest about the episode in which Emma Scorpio Drake (Braedyn Bruner) and Gio Palmeri (Giovanni Mazza) rescued the dogs trapped in the late Professor Henry Dalton’s (Daniel Goddard) lab.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Outback Is Livin’ Large At the Quartermaine Mansion
Bravo to GH for bringing attention to a cause near and dear to this animal lover’s heart. It’s rare for soaps to tackle the important topic of animal welfare.
However, GH is doing just that. It’s also rare for soaps to feature animals who aren’t harmed for dramatic purposes.
Think: Y&R’s Sapato, Victor Newman’s (Eric Braden) dog, who was poisoned back in 2009, and the cat that was poisoned by Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby). Sadly, The Young and the Restless seems to be the place where animals go to die.
Thankfully, it looks as if General Hospital’s precious Beagle, Outback, who now officially belongs to Cody Bell (Josh Kelly), definitely won’t meet a grim fate, as it was originally suspected. Instead, Outback brings cute comedy gold and levity to the all-too-often tragic world of soaps.

Well, it took a year, and Emma finally accomplished her mission: rescuing the poor dogs who were being experimented on in Professor Dalton’s lab.
Apparently, it wasn’t Emma’s first rodeo either. She also rescued dogs from Dalton’s old lab at Berkley. Emma was expelled, but she intentionally followed Dalton from Berkley to Port Charles to do it again. Good for her!
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Emma and Gio Showed Up at Sonny’s with Ten Furry Frends!
Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was in for a huge shock when Gio and Emma showed up at his home with tons of furry friends in need.
According to several GH actors who were involved in the scenes, releasing the animals onto the set was adorable but chaotic.
Braedyn Bruner, who plays Emma, told SOD she has “a soft spot for animals.” Bruner is a pet parent and has a dog named Calvin.
Maurice Benard got to share some snuggles with his Pomeranian co-star, who apparently became excited and pooped right before filming!
The Pom is named Fizz. Bruner exclaimed, “Maurice also loved the dog very much.” Giovanni Mazza, who plays Gio, said that his favorite pup that day was a beagle named June.
Outback is played by Baily, who now has her own wiki listing on General Hospital fandom. She’s described as “a good girl.” In the first take, the dogs were running around like crazy.
General Hospital Spoilers: Rick Hearst Had A Lot To Say About the Pups
Another actor who was part of the adorable scene was Rick Hearst, who plays Ric Lansing. He commented, “Those scenes with the rescue dogs, oh man!”
Hearst continued,
“When you have kids or dogs in scenes, it is so crazy and unpredictable, and you’ve got to be ready for anything because they’re definitely going to have the focus.”
The actor said,
“There were 10 dogs! I had to sort of corral two of them in the scene, and they were two of the biggest dogs. One was a Bullmastiff, and the other was a Great Dane!”
He added,
“I was joking with the director, like Oh sure, give them to me! At one point, I was holding a beagle and having to step over the Great Dane. It was just pure comedy!”
“Hearst concluded,
“It was fun, but boy, oh boy, talk about a challenge for trying to keep your focus and staying on point with your dialogue!”
Fans were also eager to see if maybe Sonny would adopt a dog or two! The scene was a refreshing change of pace for soaps, and I know I appreciated it! Did you enjoy watching all the cuteness unleashed?
