‘General Hospital’ spoilers reveal that Steve Burton recently dished on several Port Charles hot topics on the podcast he hosts with GH castmate Bradford Anderson, who plays Damian Spinelli. Of course, Burton plays Jason Morgan.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton Started His Hiatus from GH In Late March

During their podcast, “That’s Awesome,” Burton opened up about his recent exit, saying he’s taken a hiatus from the soap to spend more time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and his family.

Burton’s iconic character, Jason Morgan, had his big exit in March. Jason took the heat for shooting WSB Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).

The WSB carted him off to an undisclosed prison. He was protecting Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) from the ramifications of shooting Cullum to protect Jason and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud).

Jason, of course, had planned to leave town with his lady love, Britt. However, the plans went sideways when Cullum learned about the lovers’ exit strategy and intercepted them on the pier.

Cullum stomped on and destroyed poor Britt’s medicine and then attacked her. He was about to pull the trigger on her when Jason showed up.

While the two men engaged in a physical altercation, Cullum was about to beat Jason to death with some kind of weapon when Rocco, who was hiding in the shadows, watching everything, fired a gun and shot Cullum in the back.

Jason wasn’t about to let the kid go down for shooting a WSB agent, so he told Britt to say that he was the one who shot Cullum.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Danny Wants to Join the Mob

Jason’s son, Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn), who is confused and ready to fight the power for taking his dad away, approached Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) about joining the Corinthos crime organization.

However, Sonny told Danny that he needed to let the adults who care about him “take care of it.” Burton commented that he didn’t think

“becoming Jason 2.0 was the right move for the young man.”

    Yet, Burton admitted,

“It would be an interesting story to tell because Jason wouldn’t want him to.”

Danny’s late mom, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), never wants Danny to follow in Jason’s danger seeking footsteps.

Burton’s take on Danny’s newfound lust for vengeance,

“Jason understood the risks Danny had to take to feel alive because that’s what I went through when I changed characters.”

    He added,

“But go ahead and skydive. You don’t need to go tracking people down, trying to shoot people. You don’t need to get into the business. I’ve already done it. My kid doesn’t have to do it.”

Burton also explained that the mafia game has changed since his alter-ego left Jason Quartermaine behind and became Jason Morgan.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Burton Thinks a Mafia Storyline for Danny Would Make Sense, But It Has to Be Told Differently

“The mafia today, the real mafia, is different than the mafia in the 70s and 80s. It’s a whole different ball game now. I just don’t think there’s as much of ‘Hey, go take care of this guy’ as there used to be.”

    Burton went on to say,

“But if there was a next generation of that, I think it’d be for good storytelling. But I think it would just have to be told differently. It has to be different players, different motives.”

The actor also shared that his motivation to take a hiatus from GH came in part because of the recent passing of James Van Der Beek from Dawson’s Creek, who died at the age of 48 after his battle with pancreatic cancer.

When that happened, Burton realized that his family life should be more important than any show. The idea of family really hit home. Burton said,

“This is a guy we grew up watching. You look at James and his family and go, all this guy wanted was five more minutes with his wife and kids.”

Steve Burton is expected to return to his role as Jason Morgan on GH sometime this summer.
