‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Michael E. Knight is returning to GH as hotshot attorney Martin Grey. It’s good news for the actor, whose time in Port Charles was initially supposed to be brief.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Martin Will Be Involved In A Major Storyline
Martin left town this past February after he caught his girlfriend, Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring), after a “roll in the hay” with Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner). Martin is also the brother of Laura Collins (Genie Francis) and Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).
His reappearance in Port Charles could be tied to a couple of key storylines. He could be back to defend Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) since she’s otherwise stuck being her own lawyer after being arrested for the murder of John “Jagger” Cates.
He may also be returning because Laura’s daughter, Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havens), is about to wake up. Martin could even be back to start again with Lucy. He ended their relationship after she cheated on him, but time and distance could have given him a fresh perspective.
Knight recently spoke with Soap Opera Digest about his return to the canvas. Michael’s absence from the show was supposed to be for only three months.
Then, the show suddenly switched writers. Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Conner were out at GH, and two new soap scribes, Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte, were hired.
Now that Van Etten is back, the show can proceed with its plans. Van Etten was the writer who created Martin Grey. Before the invitation to rejoin the cast, Knight had his doubts. When he wasn’t called back by August, he thought, “No harm, no foul.”
That’s because he was extremely grateful to have had the time he already had on the show. GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, initially brought the actor on board to work with Roger Howarth, who played Franco Baldwin at the time. Michael’s character, Martin, legally represented Franco.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Knight Is An Extremely Thankful Man
Fortunately, Valentini reached out to him again, and he’s set to return soon.
“When Frank called me and told me about bringing me back and gave me the lowdown about the show’s plans for Martin, I was a very happy guy,”
Knight exclaimed.
Knight can’t reveal what the show has in store for his character, but he will be involved in a major storyline.
“People used to ask me, Well, what’s your role on General Hospital?”
And I would say,
“it’s kind of like paprika,”
the actor mused.
“You don’t use it a lot, but you sort of use it to spice things up.”
Michael played “Tad the Cad” Martin on “All My Children.” He recently discovered that a former Pine Valley co-star will be coming to GH soon.
Alexa Havens, who played Babe Carey Chandler on AMC, has been cast as Martin’s on-screen niece, Lulu. Michael is thrilled at the idea of sharing scenes with her again.
Knight told Soap Opera Digest,
“I will forever be thankful to Frank for what he did because those four days (how long he was supposed to be on GH) blossomed into four amazing years. For me, it felt like I had already hit the jackpot. I had no reason to complain. I’m just one thankful guy.”
