‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Katelyn MacMullen, who plays Willow Cain on the soap, recently dished to Soap Opera Digest about the fallout that occurs and the truth coming out about Drew Cain’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Fans Insisted from the Get-Go: “Willow Is Guilty!”
When the executive producer of GH, Frank Valentini, revealed to MacMullen that her character was the one responsible for pulling the trigger, he also told her,
“You’re going to have some really fun stuff to play with.”
Additionally, the head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, hinted to TV Line that,
“The outcome of Willow’s trial will reverberate for years to come.”
The soap opted to do something the audience had predicted months ago. The fans have insisted from day one that Willow was guilty. As it turns out, they were right.
Drew is the most hated man in Port Charles. Amusingly, most of the cast were suspects, and each actor was hoping their character would turn out to be the shooter.
Cameron Mathison admitted to SOD last fall,
“I can think of 10 actors that are basically hoping it’s them that got to shoot Drew. Everybody wants to be the one!”
Not only were the fans waiting for a major twist, but the actors were also curious to find out who did the deed.
MacMullen recalled the atmosphere on the set in the aftermath,
“We were all sitting there going, ‘Who did it? Who do you think did it?”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Writers Initially Didn’t Tell Any of the Actors Who the Shooter Was
MacMullen divulged,
“I was open to it being Willow; I thought it would be really interesting if she was the one who did it. But I thought, whatever way the writers decide to go, no matter what, it’ll be really fun and exciting to see who it is.”
After several months had gone by, even after Willow was arrested for the crime, MacMullen still had no idea who the shooter was.
Frank Valentini eventually revealed to Willow’s portrayer that her character was indeed the culprit. Immediately, MacMullen was all in and down to play the role of the shooter.
Not knowing she was the guilty party in advance made it easier for the actress to play the part of an innocent woman, especially after she was arrested in front of her children.
It almost looked to us like Willow might actually be a red herring, and if we didn’t know any better, that Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) may have set her up. Out of nowhere, he told Willow she could see the kids.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Willow Isn’t the Villain: She’s Our Hero!
The actors were encouraged to play up the mystery angle of the storyline. MacMullen explained,
“Our directors were so good at shaping the scenes where there were little moments of, ‘Oh, they could have done it, or maybe this person did it.”
MacMullen added,
“You would find those moments where you could give a certain look, or do something at a certain moment that makes your character appear quite guilty, where it could appear that you actually did it.”
She shared,
“And we were all kind of carrying around secrets and stuff, so we all looked very guilty! I thought the show did a great job of setting up a real whodunit!”
Whether you love or hate Willow, (or love to hate her), we have to admit those flashbacks of her shooting Drew and the disgusted look on her face were bada**! If Willow had succeeded in offing the sleazy congressman, she would have been a hero in our book!
