‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Eva LaRue’s first scenes as Blaze’s (aka Alison Rogers, played by Jacqueline Grace Lopez) mother, Natalia Rogers Ramirez, will be quite memorable.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Blaze and Kristina Have a Romance
Natalia’s daughter, Blaze, is in a relationship with another woman, Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi), and Natalia isn’t yet aware she is gay.
Well, she won’t know until the moment she walks in, as Blaze is coming out of the shower, and Kristina is in bed anxiously awaiting her girlfriend’s return.
Natalia, a very conservative Latino woman, won’t react well. She will see it as a betrayal. Blaze’s mother wants to be supportive but won’t understand.
Blaze worked hard to get to where she is as a singer. Natalia’s first instinct will be to protect her from the media finding out about her daughter being gay.
It’s a meaty first scene that actors love to sink their teeth into. Eva LaRue, a soap vet who played the role of Maria Santos on All My Children, was very excited to play this part.
The sad news is that it’s 2024, and many viewers still don’t accept gay relationships. In some of the GH groups on Facebook, viewers expressed their disgust over a lesbian couple on the soap.
They weren’t shy about exclaiming that they couldn’t watch the scenes on the show featuring two women kissing and being intimate.
The way they talked, anyone without these prejudices coming into the group might think it was the 1950s. We are supposed to have made progress by now.
It is not the first time a gay couple has been featured on a soap, and it won’t be the last. It isn’t easy to see that some fans don’t have an open mind.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: It’s 2024, and Homophobia Still Exists
Unfortunately, even in 2024, homophobia still exists. The argument against homosexuality is that it goes against their beliefs that a same-sex couple is sinful.
GH isn’t afraid to “go there,” they should be commended for taking the risk. Unfortunately, much of the demographic is straight females, middle-aged or older. There are some younger viewers, but the core audience is 40- to 50-something women.
And isn’t religion the institution that preaches tolerance and acceptance of all people? While a relationship between an individual and God is and should be personal, those who are fiercely against homosexuality are putting constraints on the individual and their relationship with their maker.
Love is also a universal concept and shouldn’t be considered strictly between a man and a woman. Interestingly enough, the first lesbian couple on soaps was “Lianca” or Lena Kundera (Olga Sosnovksa and Bianca Montgomery (Eden Riegel. They were the first same-sex couple to share a kiss on a soap opera in 2003.
Unbelievably, it took until 2003 for that to happen. It caused quite an uproar, too, as not only was Bianca gay, but she was also the daughter of the beloved Erica Kane (Susan Lucci).
The romance between Lena and Bianca was groundbreaking. Now, the torch is being passed to Blaze and Kristina. GH is ready to tell a fantastic love story and take on the haters.
