‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers know this won’t be a popular opinion, but that’s never stopped us before and we think it would be a cool move for the future of the show if Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) retires.

With the current trajectory of the show following the new writer’s soft reboot and their rewriting history and characters to fit the current push to elevate Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), there’s a good chance there will be other changes as well.

Benard has spoken a couple of times on how he’s getting close to retiring, and given how just about everyone in his life has turned on him, it looks like this could be Sonny’s swan song.

How they do it will be interesting as they could have Sonny be killed, sent to prison and become a recurring character if that, or have him retire and hand his business off to Jason.

Given how Jason has shown he doesn’t believe Sonny can be trusted before his meds were messed with, we doubt this will happen without some more changing of history to fit the story instead of finding a creative way to make it work.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers – Carly and Jason make sense

While many of us feel Carly and Sonny belong together, ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers like the idea of Carly and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) becoming a power couple moving forward with the show.

The main reason is Carly and Jason will always put each other first, no matter what. Sure, they’ll sacrifice for others for a time, but they’ll always return to one another.

A perfect example is when Jason returned and was wounded she was the first person he actually visited, not out of need but desire to see her.

Then there’s the Metro Court fiasco after Carly lost it after investing in Aurora. It was 100% her fault and she’s kinda owned it, but she also turned down several others that offered it to her.

The first was out of principle when Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) bought it and wanted to give it to her as a peace offering. Then she turned down Sonny and Oliva Falconeri (Lisa LoCicero).

But when Jason bought it without asking her and offered it she took it and now acts like it’s obvious why she did.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers – Toward the future

If Benard is going to retire and Sonny will be retired as a result, it makes sense that Carly and Jason are together to take Sonny’s business into the future.

At this point, Carly will be happier with Jason than anyone else and at the very least she’ll never betray him in any way. She listens to him and isn’t as headstrong.

As for Jason, he’d do anything for her as he’s working with the FBI to keep her out of prison.

In the end, it makes perfect sense for them to be together, but given how the show feels like spaghetti thrown against the wall to see what sticks character wise, we’re not banking on anything.
