‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Avery Kristen Pohl recently dished to Soap Opera Digest and hinted that her former character on the show, Esme Prince, isn’t dead.
Pohl, who played the villainess Esme from 2021 to 2024, reminded fans that on soaps, death is rarely permanent.

Plus, with no proof and no body, there’s no way to tell whether Esme is really gone for good.
“I don’t think she’s dead,”
Pohl admitted. Of course, Esme could eventually return alive.
Esme was presumed dead after she allegedly drowned. She had followed her ex-boyfriend, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez), to a private yacht in Paris.
Esme tried to kill Trina Robsinson (Tabyana Ali), but her true love, Spencer, dove for the drug she was about to inject into Trina, and they both went overboard and into the ocean.
On the December 5th episode of GH, Esme returned to the soap, but only in Laura Collins’ (Genie Francis) nightmare, along with Laura’s evil brother, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).
Pohl chatted with SOD and said,
“It was the quickest little pop-in, but it was fun to see everybody.”
“We filmed a week after the Daytime Emmys,”
She explained.
The actress shared with SOD some theories she has about what may have really happened to Esme,
“I would like to think that she is on a little vacation somewhere. Maybe she stuck around France, maybe she’s like in Morocco on a camel somewhere.”
Besides, GH fans know that Esme has a habit of surviving her deep, unpredictable submersion into the water. Viewers may recall when Esme fell off the parapet at Wyndemere after a struggle with Ava Jerome (Maura West).
Her epic swan dive occurred sometime around New Year’s Eve 2022. Somehow, Esme miraculously survived.

Esme also dove off the parapet and cheated the Grim Reaper once again during the time she was pregnant with little Ace Cassadine (Keris and Kieran Barry). Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) had been holding her hostage at Wyndemere. If anyone could survive a so-called drowning incident, it’s definitely Esme.
Although Pohl’s return was short and sweet, she insisted she was thrilled to step back into Esme’s shoes. Pohl also enjoyed working with soap legend Genie Francis again.
She also loved being part of Laura’s dream. Pohl said,
“I think dreams are entertaining because you get to throw out some of the social context and rules that might be needed for doing a scene that’s not in a dream.”
Pohl explained,
“You get to have way more freedom, and I think for this scene in particular, I think Laura really hurt Esme and was really aware of that fact. So, I thought everything had to stem from that perspective.”
She continued,
“But it’s weird, you’re taking someone else’s perspective of you as a character and then channeling that into speaking back to them. At least that’s where my head was as an actor with that.”
Pohl added,
“But getting to look at your character from a slightly different perspective and lens keeps things fresh and interesting, and it was really enjoyable and fun, getting to step back into Esme. I loved it! I missed that girl a lot!”
