General Hospital star Kathleen Gati knows that playing a dangerous villain like Dr. Liesl Obrecht is all part of her day job, but it’s not always a fun walk in the park. As a matter of fact, the actress opens up about her character, some of the more challenging aspects of playing someone who is so disliked and having to deal with people who are even more dreadful than her character: online trolls.

Speaking to Soaps in Depth in a new interview, the brunette beauty says that one of the more difficult scenes she had to film were the ones in which she held Peter August captive in her cabin. In fact, Gati believes that it was one of the times that Obrecht went too far.

“I loved the comedy of it all, but the torture stuff was hard sometimes,” she confessed to Soaps in Depth in a new interview. “I hit him with a knife, threw an axe at him, and did all these terrible things.”

But then again, there were some General Hospital fans out there who thought Peter got what he deserved. “I thought I was going to get trampled on by the audience for all of it,” Gati revealed. “But fans on Twitter were like, ‘Obrecht, go get him!’ Are you kidding?”

And while there are some people who seem to be Team Obrecht, Gati is well aware of all the online trolls out there. Thankfully, she knows how to roll with the punches and just ignore some of the commentary out there.

“People write some nasty things online, and yeah, you’re right — she’s horrible,” she chuckled. “I hate her sometimes, too! But the audience needs people to hate so they can have heroes. So I’m making room for other people to be loved.”
