We had heard about the family of Gabby Petito sueing the Laundrie family for $100,000 for the wrongful death of their daughter before, but now it seems that her Mother has brought an amended case against the Estate of Brian Laundrie himself declaring wrongful death to the amount of $30K.

According to reports, Brian Laundrie only had $20K in monetary assets socked away, so sueing them for $30K is going to set the Laundries back an extra $10K. The lawyer for the Laundrie family of course tried to get the original lawsuit dismissed as “frivolous and baseless” but Gabby’s Mom, Nicole Schmidt, is not backing down.

Mother of Gabby Petito sues Estate of Brian Laundrie for $30K

“The Petitos will have gained nothing more than a piece of paper telling them what everybody already knows – which is that Brian was responsible for Gabby’s death as indicated by the FBI.” said the Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino.

In the lawsuit the Petito’s allege that the Laundrie’s already knew the whereabouts of Gabby’s body long before Sept. 14th and them saying that they hoped that Gabby could be reuinited with her family when they knew that she never would be and possibly that she had already been murdered was “beyond outrageous”. The lawsuit goes onto allege that Chris and Roberta Laundrie’s behavior was “shocking and atrocious”.. and we’re not about to disagree.

The Petitos want their day in court, and we’re here for it. We would like to see some justice for Gabby’s family because they were robbed of her far too soon. $30K really isn’t all that much when putting value to someone’s life, and what it could have potentially been.

The Laundrie’s could have prevented this by cooperating with law enforcement and by contacting Gabby’s family when everything happened. One wonders what on earth was actually going through their head when they decided to lawyer up and ignore the calls of Gabby Petito’s frantic family. Any Mother could sympathize with Nicole Schmidt, calling around to find her daughter and getting dead ends must have been terrifying.

If what they allege in the lawsuit is true, then all of that pain could have been prevented by the family of Brian Laundrie but instead of offering solace, they offered platitudes. We’re hoping for their day in court. We at DSD will be following the case. Stay tuned!!!
