The #FreeBritney movement has been busy recently. With all the drama going on behind the scenes, in the papers, and on social, it’s hard to keep up. Let’s update you on some of the latest, as well as a post that seemed to be a clear message to those who doubt Britney. Here’s what you need to know.
#FreeBritney says, “Not so fast.”
First, let’s talk about Jamie Spears. The news sites blew up with reports Britney’s father had agreed to step down as her conservator. However, those who support the singer quickly debunked all the news sites. They called fake news and claimed publicity stunt to appease a public who’s becoming more and more aware of what’s going on by the day.
In reality, Spears did not step down from the role and papers suggest he’s actually opposing being taken off the conservatorship in September. He did, however, say he would step down when the time was right and wanted to make sure there would be a smooth and orderly transition. With a filing claiming the world doesn’t know the extent of what has gone on with Britney, it came across to a lot of Britney’s supporters as a way to not only appease the public, but make the singer look bad. There was more.
Bad news for #FreeBritney
Meanwhile, there were some surprising developments that a lot of Spears’ supporters found convenient. They called out reports from some major outlets which are claiming Britney knocked a phone out of an employee’s hand. There was also a report claiming harassment of another employee. Again, the #FreeBritney movement came back hard, saying nothing like that happened over 13 years, so they found it strange this would happen so close after the recent legal drama.
Some are even going so far as to allege Britney is not only being falsely smeared, but punished as well. They point to a 911 call the singer made about a theft at her home. A security team claimed Spears changed her mind, but the #FreeBritney accounts online don’t buy it.
They believe Britney was trying to speak to the police, and the security team (who technically works for the conservatorship) turned them away. Is it true? We don’t know. What we do know is, Spears appears to be defiant and claiming her power on Insatagram in the wake of all this.
#FreeBritney giving her power?
The singer has mentioned a few times the #FreeBritney campaign has been appreciated by her, and she even shared a video of someone with a flag with the hashtag on it. On August 20, she took to Instagram to send a clear message.
The singer posted a video of her through the years. It included her iconic “I’m a Slave For You” performance at the VMAs, as well as her performance with Michael Jackson, and her “Me Against the Music” video with Madonna.
In the caption, the singer shared, “For some reason, I feel the world needs to be reminded… I may dance in my living room now, but I sure as hell know who I am. Most of these accomplishments were BEFORE the conservatorship. Nuff said. Mic drop.”
Fans were quick to show support, with one saying they’re glad Spears posted this, as they’d forgotten she performed with Jackson. Others loved her attitude, while one assured her there was no need to be reminded of her accomplishments. Whatever happens from here, we’re wishing the best for Spears and glad to see this display of power and confidence. It’s a great example for others struggling with their own worth.
