The #FreeBritney movement has been a long time coming, and it’s been picking up steam. Recently, Britney Spears herself spoke for the second time at a hearing. In both testimonies, she detailed the abuse she’s dealing with under conservatorship and her desire for it to end.
And fans/activists got some hope when Britney’s lawyer of choice was recently approved. Well, things have taken a turn with a new filing, as well as a couple other supporters speaking out about the situation. Let’s see the latest.
The latest in the #FreeBritney plan
So, fans and #freebritney supporters were thrilled to see that Britney got a new lawyer. He’s considered a serious player, and he’s proving the talk right. He’s already challenged Jamie Spears to resign from the conservatorship.
Apparently, that hasn’t happened. So, Mathew Rosengart has filed papers to remove Britney’s father from the estate. But there’s more.
Apparently, the choice for Jamie’s replacement is Jason Rubin, a man with forensic accounting experience. As fans have raised a lot of questions about the way the estate is being handled, we find this an interesting choice.
It definitely sounds like they’ll be going over the books carefully, should Rubin be approved. The hearing was scheduled for December, but reportedly got moved up to September. We’ll keep you updated on the latest there.
Speaking out to #FreeBritney
In other news, Britney had another show of support recently. Her friend and agent, Cade Hudson has added his voice to the mix. In a social media post, he detailed 12 years of silence that he felt he couldn’t break, as it would end his career.
However, he decided enough was enough and the right thing to do was speak out against the violation of someone’s human rights. In the post he hinted there was a person in particular that he was especially fearful of, due to being threatened. However, Hudson declined to name who that was.
He also claimed someone else close to her has been silenced as well. He called those who are silencing others out and defended Britney as a generous person failed by the system and the public. He also tagged the singer in his post, telling her, “It’s your time.” But he’s not the only one.
Empathy for Britney and #FreeBritney
Recently, stars like Lance Bass have come out in support of the singer and #FreeBritney movement. Another voice was added to that with LeAnn Rimes. The singer, author, and podcaster has been making the rounds for the second season of Wholly Human, her upcoming album, as well as the 25th anniversary of her debut. In several interviews, the situation came up.
In a chat with Forbes, Rimes spoke about the trauma of young stardom and said, “It’s been very triggering to watch or listen to any of it,” Rimes says.
“I’ve broken down a few times watching the Britney stuff because I deeply, deeply understand. I really, really wish her the best, as with any child star.” She went of to say that there’s no roadmap to surviving child stardom, because often those who’ve been there are either dead or in a bad place themselves.
By speaking out against these situations, we hope that real change will happen in an industry where child star tragedies and drama is an all-too-common story.
