Elon Musk has just offered $41 billion to purchase Twitter, saying the proposed deal is part of hIs plan to bring ‘free speech around the globe.’ Musk’s offer price of $54.20 per share comes just days after he rejected to take a seat on the company’s board, represents a 38% premium to Twitter’s April 1 closing price.

“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Musk wrote in a letter to Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor.

However, he thinks Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company and claims his offer is his ‘best’ and ‘final’.

“Since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company. My offer is my best and final offer and if it is not accepted, I would need to reconsider my position as a shareholder.”

You have to respect Elon‘s blunt offer, saying he will not be playing ‘the back-and-forth game’ and that he has moved directly to the end of the negotiations with his mega offer. “It’s a high price and your shareholders will love it.”

He stepped away from the board seat as it would have prevented him from a possible takeover of the company. Twitter released a statement saying, “The Twitter Board of Directors will carefully review the proposal to determine the course of action that it believes is in the best interest of the Company and all Twitter stockholders.”

Analysts are predicting that Musk will ultimately succeed in his takeover bid.

It absolutely looks like Musk could take over the company with that price, and apparently, $41 billion is the price of free speech. This comes after several people have been banned and kicked off Twitter just for having different opinions than the ‘majority’ of Twitter users. Musk is looking to change that and make the platform a space where people can say what they want without fear of being silenced.
