With everything going on with Russia invading Ukraine, and the sanctions that have been levied against Russia, we’re seeing our oil and gas prices soar and we’re still paying Russia for their oil and gas, essentially funding their war efforts.
If we don’t stop giving them money and become more self-reliant, things may get worse, and even electric car manufacturers realize this. Elon Musk tweeted out that ‘extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures’, calling for the United States to increase oil and gas outputs so we don’t rely on Russia.
“Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil & gas output immediately.
Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures.”

Elon Musk ‘Hates To Say It’: “We Need To Increase Oil And Gas Output Immediately” – Even Though It Will “Negatively Affect Tesla”
Musk explains that while this would ultimately not be good for his electric car company, his energy solutions cannot react instantaneously to make up for the immeasurable amounts of Russian oil and gas.
“Obviously, this would negatively affect Tesla, but sustainable energy solutions simply cannot react instantaneously to make up for Russian oil & gas exports.”
People agreed with Musk and found it ironic that the leading electric car manufacturer would call for us to amp up our own oil and gas, but it makes sense, at least for the moment. He’s not saying that he have to do it for the long run (he obviously wouldn’t want that), but in the current situation, it makes the most sense. Cut off our need from Russia, giving them less money, plus the sanctions on other things would mean his profits would take a huge blow.
Then, after the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is over, we can slowly begin our switch to electric vehicles, all while maintaining our own supply of oil.
