El Secreto de Selena spoilers for Sunday, September 15th reveal that the Quintanillas are on to Yolanda Saldívar (Damayanti Quintanar), Selena Quintanilla (Maya Zapata) deals with insecurities as well as her business venture and relationship, while Maria Celeste Arrarás (Sofía Lama) is still working hard on her book. If you missed it, let’s get to your El Secreto de Selena recap.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Insecurities and business

This week’s episode focuses on an aspect of Selena that the public might not have known well, and was definitely never shown in the movie—Selena’s insecurities. Specifically, her worries over her body that led her to Dr. Ricardo Martínez (Eduardo Santamarina)—someone would eventually play a huge role in this story.

Selena is assured by Chris Pérez (Daniel Elbittar), as well as Dr. Martínez that she is fine as she is. Dr. Martínez thinks she can actually wait a few years to maybe get some lipo in her legs, but Selena doesn’t want to wait and goes through with the procedure. The recovery is a bit hard on her, as well as Chris. He’s shown being a bit squeamish of the aftermath of the procedure, so Yolanda steps in to help apply the ointment Selena needs.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Relationship issues

The episode opens in the so-called “Year of the hurricane” (1996) as Maria Celeste decides to listen to a tape of Chris talking about his relationship with Selena.

The scene goes back to the early ‘90s, where Chris is a shy guitarist that Selena is encouraging to spend time with her and the rest of the band. He notes how different they were, and how there was a lot of joking in their relationship.

Later, though, after a 1994 trip to Mexico, we see a bit of friction, as a happy reunion briefly turns tense. This leads to Selena admitting she wishes that Chris would surprise her now and then, and take more initiative in their relationship. This seems to quickly be patched up, though, as they soon are holding hands again.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Busted

Also this week, Abraham Quintanilla (Jorge Zárate) has followed through on his promise in a previous episode to investigate the fan club issue. What he and Suzette Quintanilla (Bárbara González) end up revealing to Selena is that several checks were written and cashed by Yolanda, but the funds aren’t accounted for in any of the bank records. There are thousands of dollars to account for. They make a reluctant Selena call Yolanda to ask her to come by Q Records.

When Yolanda arrives, she denies the allegations and swears to Selena she would never do that. Abraham doesn’t believe her and tells her she’s fired, but Selena asks them not to be so harsh with her. Yolanda leaves after promising that she has paperwork to prove that she didn’t steal anything, and will provide it to them.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Work continues

Previous to the confrontation we see one of Selena’s business trips to Mexico, where Dr. Martínez says that he has rich friends who would love to invest in her company. And with the recent trade agreement, he thinks that they can fulfill Selena’s goal of cutting production costs in Monterrey.

During the surgery consultation and the business trip, we see the developing association between Selena and Dr. Martínez grow. He even sends her a bunch of flowers after a meeting, which Yolanda says seems like an attempt to get more out of this relationship. Selena insists they’re both married and thinks the flowers are nice. She ends up calling him to say thanks, despite Yolanda trying to talk her out of it.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: The standoff ends

The truck standoff ends today, but it was clearly not an envious task for the team who was in charge of the operation. When it seemed like Yolanda was possibly about to relent and leave the truck, she hears a bunch of fans outside yelling about how she needs to burn, and Selena is now in God’s glory.

She obviously gets back inside and it takes a bit more effort and some prayer before they finally manage to get Yolanda into custody. The DA is keeping tabs on what happened and quickly sets up a meeting to discuss the case.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Progress

Maria Celeste is nearing the end of her book and the time spent is still taking a bit of a toll on her relationship with Manny (Moisés Arizmendi). She promises him this week that the book is near completion and apologizes for neglecting him.

Instead of going to dance class, they decide to stay home instead where they get cozy a while before she gets up to order them a pizza. She wants him to read her latest chapter and give feedback, and he actually seems to be interested in what she wrote. He asks if Selena knew Yolanda would be fired. Maria Celeste answers that it seemed Selena was conflicted. One the one hand, her family’s accusations sowed doubt in her mind. At the same time, they had a close friendship.
