El Secreto de Selena spoilers reveal that the controversial series based on a book begins with tragedy before bringing us back to where the fateful connection between Selena Quintanilla (Maya Zapata) and Yolanda Saldívar (Damayanti Quintanar) began. If you missed it, let’s catch you up in an El Secreto de Selena recap.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Work problems

Journalist María Celeste Arrarás (Sofía Lama) and husband Manny (Moisés Arizmendi) having troubles because she’s been eight months researching the Selena case and is now working on the book, El Secreto de Selena. He thinks she should hire a ghost writer to finish and give them time together, but she’s determined to tell this story. She’s positive there’s much more than people know to the case.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Aftermath

After listening to a message from A.B. Quintanilla (Baltimore Beltrán) asking why she’s not at the studio already, Selena attempts a call to Dr. Ricardo Martínez (Eduardo Santamarina), but only gets his answering machine. She goes inside room 158, and the next we see of that is Yolanda escaping the room and climbing into her truck.

Pete Riviera (Mauricio Isaac), the lead detective, finds Yolanda and draws a gun when he sees one in her truck. Yolanda threatens to kill herself if they don’t leave her be, and he has to contact negotiators to get her to give herself up. While waiting, he and Richard Frederickson (David Zorrilla) is given orders by Riviera to gets witnesses and other details. Richard then follows orders and learns about the ring Selena was clutching at the time of the incident.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: The beginning

This show does a lot of time jumps, and the first takes us back to 1991 to show how the fateful meeting between Yolanda and the Quintanillas took place. She’d been calling to get Abraham Quintanilla (Jorge Zárate) to get him to endorse her 300-member fan club. She thinks if the club is official and has official merchandise, it will raise Selena’s profile and make a lot of money, which can be donated to a charity of their choosing if they like.

Abraham is (rightly) very irritated at first with this strange woman who won’t stop
calling, but agrees to meet her while he’s in San Antonio for business. He then agrees to partner on the fan club after being a bit standoffish with her at first.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: The truth?

Maria has already been getting letters from fans who are angry with her writing this book, but she gets another surprising letter from Yolanda. She also expresses upset over hearing that Maria is working on a book about Selena’s case. She never thought Maria would divulge things they talked about, but hints that there’s something more only she knows.

El Secreto de Selena spoilers: Impressions

We’ve been interested in Selena and this case since way back, and are interested to see what other details might come out in this series. However, we’re surprised to see a couple of alterations already. Footage of the actual famous Astrodome show didn’t include the fireworks and other frills that the TV version did. Also Suzette Quintanilla (Bárbara González) was not playing drums for that particular performance, despite Selena introducing her during this scene.
