‘Doubling Down with the Derrico’ Spoilers finds that Karen Derrico’s maternal Grandmother, Miss Rosalie Franklin, passed away. Karen was trying to get home to be able to see her, she found out only the night before that she had taken a turn for the worse.

Her cousin Lawanda texted her and when Karen had put the kids to bed she called her and asked her what was going on, that’s when Lawanda told her the bad news, that Mameh was just laying there, not sleeping or eating, and the doctors had only given her a few days at best. Karen was going to try her best to get home to see her, but alas… it was too late.

‘Doubling Down with the Derrico’: Mameh passed away that very night.

Karen said that while she doesn’t mind her children seeing her cry over Mameh, that she just couldn’t take to her bed and not get up. Although, she probably wanted to. Mameh was the one that helped raise Karen, and as someone who had a Grandma who was like a second Mom, I can relate.

Karen had to inform all of her children that she had just gotten the news that Mameh had passed away, and then she went around and asked the kids about their favorite memories of her – the ones who were old enough at least.

Some of the older children remembered that Mameh used to drive really slow, but Denver piped up and said that she was really pretty. (Such a good Great Grandson!) Karen said that her Grandmother was well-loved by everyone in her hometown community.

Deon seemed oddly “detached” from it all, saying “my condolences to the family” as if he wasn’t a part of it at all! Mmkay then, odd. One kind of wonders what kind of relationship she and Deon had, if any kind of relationship at all.

Being the good daughter that she is, Darian asked Karen if she was sad, and Karen said that while she was sad that Mameh was gone, she felt blessed that their family got to have her for 89 years. Indeed, a long life with a good, close family relationship is a blessing. Fly high, Miss Rosalie.
