Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers keep bringing the feels. In the 12th episode of this anthology series, we deal with an issue familiar to viewers of General Hospital. Let’s take a look at how Telemundo handled a serious issue in comparison to ABC. We’ll also look at the scorecard for Thursday’s episode. Let’s start with the basics.

Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers—same story, different take

Fans of General Hospital know one of the big stories these days is Mike Corbin’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. It’s been an emotional ride so far, with lots of hard questions. For example, we’ve seen Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Barnard) at odds with Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) over his determination to get Mike into a special program outside the country. Especially in light of Mike’s meltdown at Thanksgiving.

Through the character Margarita, Telemundo deals with the same issue. Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers reveal Margarita is diagnosed with the same illness. As she works with Alzheimer’s patients daily, she’s horrified at what she knows is coming. This leads to an exploration of dignity and choice.

Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers—Her choice

Margarita wants to end her life rather than slowly succumb to the ravages of the disease. She doesn’t want to be a burden to her daughter, either. Ultimately, she chooses to keep silent about her diagnosis. As they’re in Colombia, one of the few countries that allow euthanasia for humans, she petitions to die. When the committee overseeing this decides she’ll have a decent quality of life for a while once she begins treatment, she takes matters into her own hands. First, she takes a path where she once got mugged. When her assailant threatens to kill her if she doesn’t hand over her purse, she begs him to do just that. The guy seems to understand what’s going on and refuses to be used for her own suicide attempt. When that failed, she took some pills. Luckily for her, her daughter found her in time.

Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers—Same difference

General Hospital dealt with that issue as well. When Mike’s love and fellow patient stopped eating, her real husband put her in the hospital. Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs) was horrified to learn this and shared the story of a woman from her neighborhood. Even as this person succumbed to the ravages of the disease, Gladys argued her friend told her she chose to stop eating. She was done. Though the memory fails, Gladys related the basic knowledge of dignity and loss of independence sticks with people. Almost like a primal instinct. Both shows dealt with the issue in a moving and thought-provoking way. Margarita’s quest to not be a burden and her family’s race to save her calls to mind Michael Corinthos’ (Chad Duell) arguments in favor of Sonny dropping the Sweden thing. He asked what Mike would really want.

Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers—Winning

We have nothing but winners tonight, even as we sadly know the victory will be short-lived. Decisiones: Unos ganan, otros pierden spoilers relate Margarita lives through her suicide attempt. Her situation also brings her and her mother back together after years of estrangement. It also allows Margarita’s daughter to learn the truth about her origin and form a relationship with the grandmother she never got to know. This will surely be a help once Margarita is no longer able to remember them, or she’s gone.
