This episode focuses on Adriana, played by actress/singer Iran Castillo. She’s an eye doctor donating her time to a prison. There, she meets Ramiro, a guy who claims he’s there for stealing in order to provide for a sick mother. Adriana finds an instant connection with this guy, but doesn’t look too deep. This turns out to be a horrible choice.
As you can guess, as soon as he gets out and they move in together, he changes. As is common in a story like this, Adriana makes excuses for the violence at first, and even defends him when her friend urges her to report him. She doesn’t want to see Ramiro end up back in jail. Predictably, the Telenovela Gods give her a new reason to want to hang on.

She ends up pregnant by Ramiro, something that forms an even stronger bond. Now, she’s determined to help him in any way she can. Even if she doesn’t want to be with him, he’s her baby’s father. So, she gives it another try for the soon-to-be child’s sake. Even after another beating and a surprising reveal, she sticks by his side to an extent.

Another bad decision here is, she didn’t check his story as well as she claimed. The shocking reveal for her was a visit from the police. They suspect him of being involved in a disappearance. Of a woman he was seeing. This is the final straw that makes her decide she definitely can’t live with him, but he still has a pull over her. In a really sad turn of events, she decides to meet with him in a public place to speak with him and his lawyer about the pending case. It turns out to be a trap.
As we figured when she got the call, there was no lawyer meeting. He made it up to get her to give him some time. Not surprising, as he also got a friend to help him fake a suicide attempt to get her back the first time she left. He is such a piece of work, we couldn’t even stand the character’s presence on screen. A total nod to the performance. The actor sold the role well. So, who ended up the winner?

Adriana proved she’s a lot tougher than she might appear. Despite getting shot in the arm, she survives and moves on with her life. Luckily for her, the loser of this episode, Ramiro, ended up shooting himself. She’s now free of any potential threat or living in fear. It was a sobering luck at how easy one can get sucked into a bad situation, and how hard it is to get out.
