‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers share that Suzanne Rogers recently opened up in an interview with TV Insider and revealed her cancer diagnosis.

‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Rogers Was Told She Had Stage II Colorectal Cancer

Maggie Horton is a legendary character on the DOOL canvas. Rogers has played Maggie since August 1973. She got her start in the industry as a dancer at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.

Roger’s first scene on the soap was with John Clarke, who played Mickey Horton, as Maggie and Mickey were married on the show.

The actress sought medical advice when she sensed something “wasn’t quite right.” She made an appointment with her doctor.

Rogers had undergone several routine colonoscopies. Her doctor ordered another one. When he saw the results, he told Rogers, “I want you to have an MRI, and I want you to have a PET scan, and I’m going to do a biopsy.”

Rogers shared that when he ordered more tests, she knew in that moment that it was serious. After she came out of another procedure, the doctor informed her that she had Stage II colorectal cancer.

She recalled that the doctor said,

“You have cancer, and you have to start treatment.”

    Rogers shared,

    “It was all a shock.”

    She continued,

“I mean, I think I was in shock for several days because I take pretty good care of myself.”

    However, the doctor assured her,

“It’s a good thing you caught it in time.”

Rogers finished shooting DOOL in June and started treatment.

‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Linsey Godfrey (Sarah Horton Kiriakis) Stood By Suzanne And Offered Her Unwavering Support

Rogers took a six-week break from the soap and underwent a course of radiation and chemotherapy. She’s thankful for the support of her close friend, Sunie Ostermann, and her on-screen daughter, Linsey Godfrey, who plays Sarah Horton Kiriakis.

    She shared,

“When I had to go see a doctor, one of them would go with me because you get to a point where once they say cancer, you don’t hear anything else.”

Godfrey is also a cancer survivor. Linsey was diagnosed with Stage III Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when she was 18 years old. Godfrey underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy and was finally declared cancer-free in 2007.

Rogers praised Linsey’s unwavering support and described her as a source of comfort,  sharing,

“When I underwent infusions, Linsey sat there with me and held my hand while I was having it.”

The DOOL vet said that she shared many meals with Godfrey and her on-screen husband, Paul Telfer, who plays Xander Kiriakis.

    Rogers gushed,

“I knew I could count on them, so it was a lovely experience. We really feel like a family.”

She also received much support from some of her other DOOL castmates, including Mary Beth Evans, who plays Kayla Johnson, Stephen Nichols, who plays Steve Johnson, and Greg Rikaart, who plays Leo Stark.

The show’s producers, Ken Corday and Noel Maxam, also kept in touch, offered their support, and encouraged her to focus on resting and healing.

‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Rogers Is Back And Filming At DOOL

The powers that be assured her that the role of Maggie would be waiting for her whenever she was ready. Rogers felt it was time to come forward.

She wanted to be honest about her diagnosis, as some rumors were circulating on social media that she had left the show for good.

Fortunately, the show’s schedule worked in her favor. The soap took a six-week break from filming, which made Maggie’s absence from the canvas much less noticeable.

The hiatus served Rogers well. She was able to relax and recover. Now, Rogers has returned to filming DOOL.

Rogers commented that her recovery has been somewhat of a challenge. When she first returned, she was tired all the time, which is unusual for her, as she is usually energetic.

She mentioned that she’s starting to feel better now. Rogers also pointed out that she was fortunate not to have lost her hair.

Rogers admitted that some people may not believe she went through her cancer ordeal because her hair is still intact.

    Rogers exclaimed,

“I really don’t care what other people say. I know what I’ve gone through and I’ve come out on the other side, so that’s all I care about.”

A spokesperson for DOOL confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that Rogers isn’t going anywhere. They said,

“Maggie and Suzanne are integral to the show’s history, present storylines, and now, on the heels of our pick up, the future! Neither are going anywhere.”
