Days of Our Lives spoilers reveal that Alison Sweeny returns as Sami Brady on August 4th as she will grieve the death of John Black (Drake Hogestyn) with her mom, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall).
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Sweeny Couldn’t Make It Back To Film John’s Memorial Service
Sweeny was gutted that she wasn’t able to adjust her schedule and make it back to the set to film John’s memorial service last fall. Hogestyn was dying when they were filming the funeral scenes, which made them all the more heartbreaking and poignant.
However, Sami makes the trip to Salem this coming week to mourn the man who was like a second father to her. Unfortunately, she never had the chance to tell him that. Sami also wants to offer her mother some support.

“I was devastated that my schedule didn’t allow me to film the funeral scenes for John Black with the rest of the cast.
She continued,
“But I had a great talk with then co-executive producer, Janet Spellman Drucker, and she said she and the writers would figure something out for me to return as soon as I was able, which meant so much to me.”
Sweeny shared,
“I really wanted Sami to be part of the story of saying goodbye to John, as well as being there to mourn with Marlena. As difficult as the subject matter was, I’m really glad they were able to make this happen.”
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Sami Has Grown Up And Admits Her Past Mistakes
Sami has matured a lot and now realizes the pain she’s caused others in the past. She knows she was venomous toward John and blamed him for the demise of her mother, Marlena, and father, Roman Brady’s (Josh Taylor) marriage.
She even went as far as to sell her little sister, Belle Black (Martha Madison), on the black market when she was a baby. Sami feels intense guilt over her past misdeeds.
However, as Sami told Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) during her last visit to Salem, she’s now in therapy and doing the hard work on herself to become a better person.

There is nothing like a little healthy self-reflection to help you recognize your mistakes and evolve into someone who takes accountability rather than blames everyone else. That’s what Sami is doing, and from her last face-to-face talk with Johnny, it shows.
Sweeny explained,
“Even though the writers reminded me that there had been this mea culpa moment where Sami apologized, I still think Sami wouldn’t forgive herself so easily, now that he’s gone and they don’t have years to unwind all that bad blood.”
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Sami And Marlena’s Scenes Are Set To Be Major Tear-Jerkers
The actress promises fans this much:
“The scenes with Marlena carry a lot of history and heart. It’s one of those mother-daughter moments, where you really don’t have to say anything. It’s just an extremely emotional moment as they hug and cry, and it’s really heartbreaking.”
Sweeny admits the scenes she shares with her on-screen mother really weren’t acting. The entire Days family was shocked and devastated to learn of Drake’s death last year. Every cast member of the show loved Drake, and every tear they shed was 100 percent real.

Sami’s portrayer also shared a personal bond with Drake. The real-life closeness she felt with the late actor infused more depth and meaning into Sami’s visit with Marlena. Drake always had a positive attitude, and it rubbed off on her and everyone they worked with.
Sweeny, who left the show in January 2014, appreciates the soap finding ways to incorporate Sami into their storytelling,
“Every time I go back to Salem to be part of the family there, I’m grateful. I love Sami, I love Salem, I love everyone there. It’s a second home to me. I can’t imagine not having it in my life.”
