‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers consider Salem bizarre, and its quirkiness is part of its unique charm. In this soap, several characters supposedly died at the hands of the Salem Stalker, and they all showed up on a tropical island together.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: The Soap Within A Soap
It’s also a show in which the devil possesses half the characters. And Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) has brought people back to life by creating a serum to resurrect the dead. Yet somehow, fans don’t seem to appreciate the beauty and the humor of Body &Soul.
It’s quite surprising because while all soaps make you suspend your disbelief, Days is definitely an exceptionally weird program. And it is wonderful.
When Abe Carver (James Reynolds) was kidnapped by Nurse Whitley King (Kim Coles), she took him to an apartment and pretended to be his wife, Paulina Price (Jackee Harry).
She even went as far as to hire an actor to play his son. King drugged Abe, rendering him helpless, and he suffered from memory loss. She also got him hooked on the soap opera Body & Soul.
However, Abe realizes something is amiss when he sees his “son” on the soap. Once after Abe was finally rescued from the cuckoo for cocoa puffs, nurse, Body & Soul was canceled.
Abe and Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) decided to purchase the rights to the soap. They immediately started casting Salem residents into the soap within a soap.
Some of the “cast members” on Body & Soul have the same names as original soap characters, like “Tucker McCall” from The Young and the Restless and “Katherine Bell” from General Hospital.
It’s humorous that Days would do this, especially considering Mary Beth Evans, who plays Kayla Brady on the show, was Katherine Bell on General Hospital.
‘Days Of Our Lives’ Spoilers: A Love Letter To Fans
Body & Soul also represents all the soaps that have been canceled in the last decade or so. There are only four remaining soaps left on the air.
Body & Soul is reminiscent of the 1991 movie, “Soapdish,” Staring Sally Field, Kevin Kline, and Whoopi Goldberg, as it is a wink and a nod to the notion that soaps are a fun genre. It almost comes off as a love letter to the fans. But it is one that viewers have vehemently rejected.
Days has a fun little inside joke, but for some reason, many fans aren’t too thrilled with it. Body & Soul was former head writer, Ron Carlivati‘s baby.
We won’t know until April or May 2025, when the new head writers, Paula Cwikly’s and Jeanne Marie Ford’s work, will begin airing, whether the show decides to keep it going.
Carlivati admitted that Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), as head writer of Body & Soul, was modeled after himself. It’s a perfect fit since both Carlivati and Leo have a fantastic sense of humor.
Most fans aren’t on board with the soap within a soap aspect of the show, which is a shame. For Carlivatti’s part, Body & Soul was a very creative idea.
Fans are accustomed to their soaps being standard and stereotypical, but Days continually defies the norm. Unfortunately, for some fans, this detracts from the drama of the actual show.
