‘Dancing With the Stars’ spoilers find that the ballroom is not immune from the havoc Coronavirus can cause.
Only one week into the 30th season, pro dancer, Cheryl Burke tested positive to Covid-19, leaving the fate of partner, Cody Rigsby, both in the competition, and health wise, in the balance.
It turns out a clause in the rulebook allowed one of the couple’s previously filmed rehearsals to be judged by the panel of experts and home audiences, settling the competition part of the jeopardy Cody found himself in.
Unfortunately when it came to the health side, Cody wasn’t as lucky. After initially testing negative directly after Cheryl was diagnosed, Cody retested and announced on Thursday that he does, in fact, have Covid-19. Again.
‘Dancing With The Stars’ Spoilers: Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke to Compete Virtually…From Separate Locations
While the double-vaxxed pair are feeling relatively healthy, they are, of course in quarantine. And so we come back to Cody’s future in the competition.
It turns out, Cody and Cheryl will compete this week for Britney night, however their performance will be virtual, rather than live and in the ballroom. And they will be dancing in separate locations!
On Monday night Cheryl and Cody will turn their respective homes into a ballroom and somehow dance together???
Not many more details were given about how this will work considering pretty much all ballroom dance styles require partners to be touching…or at the very least on the same stage, but its good to see a show can still pull off firsts after 30 seasons!
As for Cody, the famed Peloton instructor’s second battle with Covid, he described his symptoms — which include mild congestion, headache and cough — as being far milder than when he contracted Covid-19 in February before he was vaccinated.
“So that must be the vaccine antibodies working. We’re super grateful for that.” He added, “I’m feeling okay, I’m so excited to dance for Britney week on Dancing with the Stars, one way or the other.”
Vaccinated Cheryl also said she was feeling good despite her diagnosis. “I have officially lost my senses: I can’t smell … and I definitely can’t taste anything, so now is the time for those disgusting juices that I know are so good for you,” she said. “I just want to let everyone know that even though my partner and I have COVID, which I feel still so bad about, I’m just so happy that we are both feeling good.”
A very different looking Dancing with the Stars will air this Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
