Lots of people have tried to rationalize why Josh Duggar went off the rails, but the stories that have come out of the Duggar’s own mouths is one of the most convoluted we have ever heard. We all know about how Josh helped on Jim Holt’s campaign back in the early 00’s, and how that was part of his discipline for looking at inappropriate things online, he was also tasked with digging out a pond.
The Duggars were under the impression that if they just kept their son busy enough, then he would no longer be tempted to look up adult things. He was also supposed to be courting the Holt’s daughter at the time, but that courtship ended and as we all know Josh ended up marrying the woman now known as Anna Duggar.

The Holt daughter had written a letter about what went on with Josh Duggar and left it inside a book at the Holt house, she had then lent out the book, forgetting that she had ever written the letter and that was how the story began circulating in the church of what exactly was going on with Josh Duggar.
The woman who ended up with the letter ended up in the cross-hairs of Jim Bob Duggar who wanted her excommunicated from their church. While Josh was indeed disciplined, he never received any type of help for his problem, which escalated into looking at images of child pornography, which is what he is serving a 12 year sentence for.
Michelle Duggar began to take some of her friends aside and try to explain away Josh’s actions, at least back in the early 00’s when he was a teenager. She said that when he was a young boy around 8, he and Jim Bob had purchased a car for auction and were cleaning it out when little Josh discovered some adult magazines, which they say gave him the ideas to start doing things to his sisters. It seems that this family has a habit of passing the buck, when it comes to blame.
However Jim Bob’s explanation differed greatly from Michelle’s explanation. Instead, he directly blamed Michelle for all of Josh’s problems because he said she was promiscuous in high school and was acquainted with the act of “self-pleasure” and he believes that Josh inherited his Mother’s “sins” because that is what the IBLP teaches, that kids can sometimes inherit the sins of their parents.
They believe that in order to rid the family of sin there must be so many generations of people not partaking in that sin for it to be completely cleansed out of the bloodline. However, Jim Bob also said that Josh inherited things from his own Father, but would never specify what those things were.
Of course, Jim Bob said that he himself had never had any sort of struggles. Again, it would seem that this family has a remarkable talent for passing the buck. Not once did anyone ever ask if anything ever happened to Josh, and now it’s too late and he’s gone to prison for a problem that didn’t need to happen. Granted, Josh Duggar was an adult when he made his decisions back in 2019 and could have chosen to do beter, but if he had had the right kind of help way back when, maybe there would be no victims.
