‘Counting On’ Spoilers tells us that, in her book, Jinger Vuolo, formerly Jinger Duggar, talked about how even as a child, anxiety manifested itself every night. She said that sometimes her eyes would snap open for no reason at all at night and her mind would raise with concern about things that no child should be thinking of, very adult cares, like “what if Mom and Dad get cancer?” or “What if I get cancer?” or “What would happen to me after I died?”

One can’t help but wonder if her brother’s nightly escapades had anything to do with the fact that Jinger was having anxiety at night, after all, according to Jim Bob he would just go in their rooms at night and touch his sisters while they were sleeping over their covers, still, that is pretty creepy and would give anyone anxiety at night, especially a child.

Also, since the IBLP Churhc is so steeped in purity culture, one has to wonder if whether or not Jinger was in fear for her immortal soul because of the things that Josh had done. I’m pretty doubtful that she or her sisters (especially when they were that young) did anything to make her brother “stumble”, to quote the misguided teaching.

So of course growing up in a culture in which everything is labeled your fault simply because you’re female, of course a child would internalize that and wonder whether or not if she died in the night if God would be mad at her for something that her brother did, that’s just the way child logic works.

Jinger didn’t come out and say that anything was related to Josh’s transgressions, rather she laid the blame entirely on anxiety, and some of it might have just been that. But with what she was going through at the time, and the strict culture that she was brought up in, one has to wonder if all of that caused her little child mind to manifest a ton of unnecessary anxiety.

If so, that is sad, and the culture of fear that this particular sect creates should be further examined. Matthew 11:28-30 says, “For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” people would do well to remember that when teaching children. Stay tuned!!!
