Grey’s Anatomy is losing another staple character this month. Last week, Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) asked newly single ex-wife, Dr. April Kepner to move to Boston with him and their 3-year old daughter so he could run the Catherine Fox Foundation and make some real change.
Dr. Kepner was last seen on screens in 2018. Drew exited Grey’s Anatomy at the end of season 14 after joining in season 6 with Williams. Her return to the ABC drama heralded the beginning of Williams’ departure. Dr. Avery’s final episode will air on May 20.
While Grey’s viewers are sad to see their favorite millionaire doctor go, fans of Japril were elated that the pair might make a go of their relationship again…and would love to see their adventures in Boston.
Could a third Grey’s Anatomy spin-off really be possible?
“How cool would that show be?” Drew gushed the day after her one episode return aired. She knows there is an audience for it. “I’ve been on Twitter and Japril was, I think, trending worldwide all day,” the 40 year old actress continued. “It was absolute insanity.”
Drew, who’s latest show, Cruel Summer is currently airing to rave reviews on Freeform was even asked by crew members on the Grey’s set if she was there to film a new series about Japril.
Alas, there are no firm plans for such a spin-off just yet, but loyal Grey’s fans did get huge news on Monday. While all the cameos from past beloved characters like T.R. Knight’s George O’Malley, Eric Dane’s Mark Sloan, Chyler Leigh’s Lexie Grey and McDreamy himself, Patrick Dempsey’s Derek Shepherd made it seem this could be the final season for the long running hospital drama, The Grey’s Anatomy Instagram account announced that it has been picked up for season 18!
Grab the crash cart, I think my heart just stopped!
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9pm ET on ABC
