Coronation Street Spoilers reveal one of the most important Coronation Street storylines of the year reached a gripping stage last night, as James Bailey finally admitted to his father that he was gay. Viewers have known for months that James was gay, but he has constantly tried to cover his tracks to hide his secret away from Ed.
His mother and brother both knew, and they have constantly told James that he needs to tell his dad. They both admitted that it might come as a shock to him, but he would understand. Last week, James was shocked when his ex-boyfriend Danny arrived in Coronation Street, and just as they were rekindling their relationship, Danny told him that he needs to tell his dad before they go any further.
Coronation Street Spoilers: James Tells Ed
James finally plucked up the courage to tell Ed about his sexuality in the first half of the two-parter last night. At first, Ed was understanding about his son’s choice and admitted that he would still love him regardless of his sexual preference. However, as the episode developed, it was clear that Ed didn’t truly understand at all.
James came clean to his family in the Rovers that he was seeing Danny again, and that he hoped that they would be approving. Ed was immediately shocked having worked with Danny in the past. He left the Rovers straight away and began to look for Danny. He found him in the Bistro kitchen where they argued.

James follows his father to the Bistro where he listens in on their argument. Ed blames Danny for ‘corrupting’ his son, before James bursts in looking furious with Ed and how he is handling the situation. James and his father continue their discussion back at home before Ed admits that he doesn’t think homosexuality was natural.
Ed questioned James about where this would leave his soccer career, as there has never been an openly gay player before. James admitted that it would be hard, but this was the right time for him to come out. The episode ended with Aggie and Ed arguing about how the father had handled the situation. It has been teased by Lorna Laidlaw, who plays Aggie, that the storyline will get darker. Fans will have to continue watching to see if Ed will finally approve of his son’s decision to come out.
