CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that star Mark Grossman is opening up about his character Adam Newman and his messy relationship with his family and particularly with his father, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Here’s what he has to say.
When asked why he thinks Adam has pinned so much of his identity to Newman Enterprises, the handsome young actor tells Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, “Historically, Adam went out into the world and did his own thing. He made something of himself on Wall Street without using the Newman name, and then he found out that Victor is his father. I think that changed things for him. Adam thinks he’s more qualified to run the family business than his siblings because he’s the most like Victor, and whether Adam wants to admit to it or not, he really wants Victor’s respect. Adam thinks that running Newman will win his father’s love and approval.”

Now as far as why Adam isn’t trying to heal his rift with his family, Mark admits that it’s definitely a complicated situation. He said, “There’s a lot of damage there to repair, maybe too much. Adam has made some attempts before but Nick, Victoria, and Nikki have always shut him out of the family. I think Adam wouldn’t mind a cooling-off period with them but it works both ways and they don’t seem at all interested in making peace.”

With that said, it will be interesting to see how this power play between Adam and his father Victor will play out when Y&R returns to the small screen with new episodes. Seeing how the state of California has given the greenlight for the film industry to get back to work again, here’s hoping that Y&R will start filming sooner rather than later. While the producers have not made any official comments yet, reports indicate that ‘Young and the Restless’ is expected to begin filming again by July 6th. Until then, we will just have to keep our fingers crossed!
