CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that Thursday, June 4th brought viewers back to the difficult day of August 24, 2006. As viewers are still watching reruns as per the global pandemic, the episode where John Abbott was put to rest was featured. As Abbott week nears it’s close, the family comes together to mourn the lost husband, father, and conglomerate founder in Genoa City.

The Abbott family had an interesting structure after Dina Abbott (Marla Adams) left Genoa City to pursue a life in Europe. She left her children behind to be raised by her ex-husband, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). Due to their exceptionally close relationship with their father, it’s no wonder that Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) are left grief-stricken after his passing. With Jabot Cosmetics and John’s large fortune in the ruins of his passing, there’s a lot to sort out – especially with his new-wife, Gloria Abbott (Judith Chapman).

CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Rest in Peace, John Abbott

After all, she is John’s widow, and she is grieving in her own right (even though they were the most unlikely pairing of all time). To have backup during the messy proceedings, she has called in backup: her sons, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart). Because Michael is an attorney, he can help her navigate the legal talk.

Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) and Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) are both in attendance at the funeral along with other attendees. Naturally, John Abbott’s passing will leave a cloud of uncertainty and pain over Genoa City. After all, he is one of Y&R most-loved veterans and one of the city’s most-savvy businessmen. Thankfully, Jerry Douglas will continue to appear in several more episodes as an apparition and reminder to those he loved during his time on Earth! What did you think of this memorable episode?
