Two years ago today, on September 19, 2022, Queen Elizabeth was laid to rest at her state funeral, which was held at Westminster Abbey. The Sovereign had passed away peacefully in her bed on September 8. She was 96 years old and the longest-reigning monarch in history.

Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Was One Of The Most Sizeable Gatherings Of World Leaders In History

The Queen’s casket had been lying in state since September 14. Thousands of people were present that morning in London to pay their respects to their beloved monarch.

The service was attended by a significant number of world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, making it one of the largest gatherings of dignitaries in history.

The congregation comprised several Kings, Queens, Prime Ministers, and Presidents, as well as representatives of Her Majesty’s Patronages and other public representatives.

Almost 200 individuals who were recognized in the Queen’s Birthday Honors earlier in 2022 also attended. King Charles guided the royal family as they strode following the coffin.

Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and others followed the new King as they walked in the procession. The Queen’s coffin was made in 1896 and was first utilized at Queen Victoria’s state funeral in 1901. It was used by every monarch who came after, including Edward VII, George V, and George VI.

The last time the State carriage was used was in 1965, after the death of Sir Winston Churchill. The Queen’s funeral was the first time in history that female sailors were part of the gun crew. The King’s guard saluted as the coffin passed the Queen Victoria memorial.

The coffin when it reached Windsor, the State Hearse formed, and they made the long journey toward St. George’s Chapel.

In an incredibly moving display, Her Majesty’s beautiful pony, Emma, and her corgis, Sandy and Muick, waited outside Windsor Castle as the funeral procession passed and moved toward St. George’s Chapel. The two adorable dogs came to say goodbye to their loving master.

Queen Elizabeth Led A Life OF Duty And Service

The Dean of Westminster conducted the funeral service, and the Archbishop of Canterbury delivered the sermon. The Bible verse read to the congregation was Revelation 21, verses 1 to 7.

The same passage was read at the funerals of the monarch’s grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, and her father, King George.

Queen Elizabeth’s coffin was lowered down into the Royal Vault as Archbishop Canterbury offered a blessing. Later that evening, a private burial occurred in the King George Memorial Chapel.

This year, King Charles marked the second anniversary of his mother’s death with a church service at Crathie Kirk in Balmoral.

Reverand Kenneth MacKenzie, who ministered to Queen Elizabeth toward the end of her life, conducted the service. After the service, MacKenzie said,

“This weekend is particularly significant and poignant for the royal family, indeed, for all of us in Scotland, across the wider UK and Commonwealth, because September 8 marks the second anniversary of the death of her Majesty the Queen and his Majesty’s accession to the throne.”

The Queen’s reign serves as an example of a life of duty, commitment, and service. Her Majesty would be proud to see how well her son, Charles, has followed in her footsteps.
