British Royal Family News suggests that Meghan Markle truly did try her best to ‘break the ice’ and start some sort of relationship with her future sister-in-law Kate Middleton when she first met her. Unfortunately, the Duchess of Cambridge didn’t feel the same way about wanting to get to know Meghan as she did with her. Here’s what you need to know.
According to the new book, Finding Freedom: Harry, Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, Meghan gifted Prince William’s wife with a Smythson notebook to “break the ice” and cooed over Princess Charlotte when the pair first met.

The Duchess of Cambridge was later spotted carrying her speech notes in a monogrammed Smythson of Bond Street folder at the Back to Nature Festival at RHS Wisley in September of last year, but it’s not known if this is the same notebook that Meghan had gifted her.
The book also suggests that Meghan did truly try to make an effort to get to know Kate Middleton a little bit better, but those feelings weren’t reciprocated by the Future Queen Consort of England. Instead, the book says that Kate kept her distance from Meghan, and only spoke to her when she had to.
Kate is currently living in Norfolk with Prince William and their three children while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have started a new life for themselves in Los Angeles. While the book doesn’t imply that there was a deep falling out between the two royal sister-in-laws, it doesn’t appear as though they are on speaking terms either.
In fact, the last time Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were in the same room together was back in March for the Commonwealth Day Services. The book says that Kate didn’t even acknowledge Meghan or look in her direction, even though she was seated just a few short feet away.
