British Royal Family News says that Prince William believes there will be mental health issues and repercussions following the months-long lockdown to help stop the spread of the global pandemic that is the coronavirus. The Duke of Cambridge made his comments during a Zoom call with several footballers from the Arsenal Football Club this week. As part of his Heads Up campaign, William spoke to the athletes and he says that the return of sports like football might offer something for people to “rally around” again. Here’s what he has to say.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince William said in his Zoom call with the football players, “And, as you can see behind me, I’ve got the FA Cup, it’s going to be named the Heads Up FA Cup – which is great news. So we’re going to really use the final as a moment to promote good, positive mental health for everyone. I think there’s going to be, sadly, a lot of repercussions from this in society, not just in football, in terms of people’s mental health. Hopefully, the FA Cup can be a bit of a pivot that people can rally around.”

As many fans know, Heads Up is a partnership between Prince William’s ongoing mental health campaign Heads Together and the FA in a season-long initiative that was launched by the FA Community Shield last year.

However, there were some royal fans and critics that commented on Prince William and his mental health initiative, pointing out that the future King of England is in a much different position than the ‘average Joe.’ Many comments included, “Why are they always banging on about mental health? Unlike the majority of the world, they have secure, protected lives with every comfort, advantage and luxury,” along with, “Why is he always talking to millionaire footballers? What special knowledge can they offer on mental health that say, your average binman or delivery driver, couldn’t?”
