British Royal Family News finds that the Easter weekend is one of the times of the year that all British people looking forward to. There is a four-day weekend, with many banks and other establishments closed on Friday and Monday. The weekend is particularly important for the royal family, as the Queen typically spends the weekend with those closest to her.
Her Majesty would attend the Sunday service at church with the remaining royals, but that plan will not be going ahead this year. The lockdown measures that the British government has in place means that all places of worship are currently closed to the public, which means that this will be an unprecedented weekend for the Queen.
British Royal Family News: Some Traditions Remain
The Queen often spends the Easter weekend at her Windsor residence, which means that tradition has remained. She is currently in lockdown with Prince Phillip at the castle, but she was forced to move there a week earlier than was initially planned. However, that would seem the only tradition that will be kept this year.
Usually, on the Thursday before Easter, Her Majesty would attend a church service in another party of the United Kingdom. Here, she would hand over Maundy money for the pensioners and also exchange pleasantries. Her age determines how much money is handed out to those for their exceptional service to the local community.
British Royal Family News: Sunday Service Cancelled This Year
The biggest change to the Queen’s schedule will be the cancellation of the service at St George’s Chapel. Last year was a big occasion for the royals as it fell on Her Majesty’s 93rd birthday and all of the senior royals were in attendance to celebrate. The Queen would then spend the remainder of the day with the family.
With the royals all self-isolating across the UK, the only way that they will be able to communicate with each other on Easter Sunday will be through a video conference. That would appear to be the likely scenario and the Queen has become tech-savvy over the past couple of weeks.
