British Royal Family News tease that Queen Elizabeth’s love of horse racing has been involved in one of her favourite days of the year throughout her reign. However, this year, it will be slightly different. The Queen will no longer be able to attend the Royal Ascot Festival in June as it has been revealed that the event will be closed to the public.
The event is one of the sporting occasions of the year in the United Kingdom, with the Queen herself attending multiple days through the week. However, the decision was made this week that the festival will continue to go ahead, but there will no fans in attendance to watch the action.
British Royal Family News: Queen Often Seen At Royal Ascot
The Queen is often one of the biggest draws of the Royal Ascot Festival. Her Majesty is a big lover of horse racing, and throughout the years she has gone to the day at the races with many members of the royal family. Last year, fans were pleased to see Prince George attended his first day at the races. However, the young royal will have to wait until the 2021 edition to attend again.
The decision was revealed by the chief executive of the racecourse Guy Henderson. In his statement, he revealed that no fans will be in attendance for this year’s festival as they follow the guidance given by the British government. There are also doubts whether the racing will even go ahead anyway, but a decision will be made on that in due course.
British Royal Family News: Sporting Occasions Hit Hard
The decision on the Ascot Festival, which takes place in June, was an expected one. Sports fans have already seen many of the big events cancelled this year, with leagues across the world suspended indefinitely. The Grand National was the biggest race of the jumps season and that was cancelled a few weeks ago.
Since taking the throne in 1952, the Queen is yet to miss a festival. In that time, she has also had 22 winners; including the 2013 Gold Cup when Estimate roared to victory in the big race of the week.
