‘Beyond the Gates’ spoilers suggest that Jon Lindstrom may be having more fun playing nefarious mob boss Joey Armstrong on BTG than straightlaced Kevin Collins on General Hospital.
‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers: Lindstrom Has the Meaty, Juicy Role He Deserves
While Lindstrom was brilliant in the role of the compassionate psychiatrist, Kevin Collins, and he also played his evil serial killer twin brother, Ryan Chamberlain, to perfection, nothing could possibly compare to his juicy role as Joey.
Not only is Lindstrom infinitely more fun as “the bad boy,” but he also gets to show off his range as an actor on BTG. His on-screen chemistry with his leading lady, Lauren Buglioli, who plays Vanessa McBride, is explosive and off-the-charts.
Joey has so many fun scenes, and the January 27th episode was only one example. Joey tricked a man who had gotten aggressive with Vanessa into a “friendly” game of poker.
He played it off like it was a regular boys’ night until Lance (Kovar McClure) mentioned Vanessa, and Joey went all mafia style on the dude, and started roughing him up.
Joey threatened him and told him that if he so much as breathes Vanessa’s name, he’ll kill him. He’s a very complex character. Joey obviously cares very deeply for Vanessa.
There may not be any evidence of guilt for killing surgeon turned gambling alcoholic, Doug McBride (Jason Graham), but he definitely felt compassion for Vanessa’s young son, who had just lost his father.
Joey had arranged Doug’s fatal car crash and framed Doug as being drunk while driving. For other characters, those actions might be less forgiving, but we understood why he wanted Doug out of the way.
Doug was not only a major threat to Joey’s business, but was also stupid enough to share his plan with Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) to take Joey down.
‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers: Joey Is a Rich Character with Endless Storyline Possibilities
Plus, Joey was sleeping with Doug’s wife, Vanessa. Doug wanted to put a stop to it, whether he admitted it or not. Joey is much different from Kevin and even Ryan.
Kevin is a level-headed, all-around good guy who has been a mainstay in Port Charles for decades, but it seems GH rarely utilizes Jon Lindstrom’s considerable talent.
Ryan killed without purpose. It’s what a serial killer does. On the other hand, Joey only kills if he absolutely has to. He’s a methodical, calculated, and smart character with class and impeccable instinct.
Not to mention, hopelessly charming, which is likely why Vanessa fell for him in the first place. His charm only comes second to the danger that surrounds him. It seems exciting for her, and she can’t help herself.
Not to mention, Jon Lindstrom was likely frustrated with his lack of screen time and storyline on GH. Now that he’s on BTG, he’s a major player.
Joey is a rich character with endless storyline possibilities. We’re starting to see him genuinely falling for Vanessa. She clearly brings out his softer side.
We wouldn’t necessarily call him “the mobster with the heart of gold,” as that honor has been bestowed upon Sonny Corinthos over on GH.
However, what we will say about Joey is that he’s the mobster we can’t get enough of, and one of the most compelling characters on Beyond the Gates.
