The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has been feeling the hit financially in recent years as their viewers declined and there’s uncertainty over their licensing fee income, and BBC “Doctor Who” Spoilers aren’t surprised, but there’s a twist.
Coupled with how they helped drive viewers away from Doctor Who, they were in a perfect place for Russel T. Davies to cut a bargain for full creative control over the show.
And now things are going to get more interesting with American based Sony purchasing a controlling interest in Bad Wolf and 30% of Bad Wolf America.
BBC “Doctor Who” Spoilers – Growing fast
Bad Wolf was launched in 2015 by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner and called Cardiff it’s home. Bad wolf quickly established itself as one of the top production companies in the UK as they remained extremely busy.
With Sony joining the family, it’s going to open them to exponential growth going forward but there is some concern among BBC “Doctor Who” Spoilers and fans.
With an American company helping to produce Doctor Who along with Davies, it’s taking away from what has been a British institution for 60 years.
And with Dwayne Johnson putting his hat in the ring to place British super spy James Bond, it’s not sitting well with us and others.
But there’s another reason for our concern, and it’s how much will Sony influence Davies and the show.
After Chris Chibnall’s heavy, ham-fisted lecturing and retconning Doctor Who’s history to fit a social narrative that’s proven to be the possible death of the show, we’re unsure if the show will recover.
BBC “Doctor Who” Spoilers – The Final Nail?
BBC didn’t care what fans thought and their current financial problems are the result of that decision among other factors, and it’s opened the door for fans’ expectations to grow once again with Davies coming on board.
Unfortunately, Chibnall is leaving a huge mess in his wake and he’s showing no remorse as he intends to make even more changes in the time he has left as the show runner.
While there’s hope that Davies can fix the show, the only real way to do it would be to retcon the retcon.
The fastest and easiest way could be to bring Capaldi back to regenerate as the new Doctor saying they had a regeneration nightmare seems to be the only way.
At least Davies and Bad Wolf working together sounds good on paper, but we have a bad feeling about this.
