Ashton Kutcher appeared on the YouTube channel, “American Optimist” to talk about protecting children and the values for success. During the discussion, questions about raising his children around the internet and social media arose and Kutcher had a fantastic response.
He began why explaining the limits that his children already had, liking only being on tablets in public spaces of the house for interactive learning apps and face-timing family but the big question was about social media with things like TikTok sucking children in like drugs.
“More than 70 percent of child sex trafficking happens online. When Hollywood superstar Ashton Kutcher first heard this statistic, he knew he had to do something to stop it. His efforts took him to Silicon Valley—where, hoping to enlist leading tech entrepreneurs in the fight against online trafficking, he first met Joe. Through their work together, Kutcher’s organization, Thorn, has built software and processes that have enabled governments to rescue thousands of children from sexual abuse.”

While Kutcher is going to cross the social media bridge for his children when they get to that point, he is quick to point out the issues and faults with an app like TikTok and spoke about how it can/could be used to create “an anti-US propaganda”, and an “anti-Taiwanese propaganda effort”.
“If I’m China and I want to create a problem in that area of the world, specifically a Naval problem in the South China Sea, I would probably want to utilize TikTok in order to influence the minds of Americans,” the actor said.
TikTok has been an enormous topic over the last few years considering its addictive nature and security risks and was even almost banned in the United States under Donald Trump.
Kutcher’s response came as a pleasant surprise to many listeners who were glad that a Hollywood actor would have such a grounded approach to parenting and social media.
Kutcher seems to be one of the most level-headed celebrities out there and his organization Thorn has enabled governments to rescue thousands of children from sexual abuse. Could TikTok and social media be his next battle?
