UFC News: Marlon Moraes And Cory Sandhagen To Square Off In The Octagon At Fight Night This Weekend

The UFC action is relentless at present, and there will be another stacked card of action for MMA fans to look forward to this weekend. UFC Fight Night 179 will take place this weekend on Fight Island, and the bout that the majority of UFC fans will be looking forward to will be the main event between Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen.

The undercard is also full of quality fights, as Edson Barboza will face off against Makwan Amirkhani in the featherweight division and Ben Rothwell will be facing Marcin Tybura in the heavyweight division.

UFC News: Bantamweight Clash Between Moraes And Sandhagen

There is no doubting that the main event of the night is the fight that all fans will be looking forward to. Moraes is a former WSOF Bantamweight Champion and is currently the top ranked bantamweight in the UFC. He has been in incredible form over the past couple of years. His only two defeats in the UFC have come against Raphael Assuncao and Henry Cejudo.

His defeat against Assuncao came back in 2017 at UFC 212, but he later avenged that defeat with a submission victory in February 2019. Moraes’ only other defeat against Cejudo came for the vacant Bantamweight title, and victory this weekend would put him back in pole position for a rematch. However, this is his first fight since December last year when he beat Jose Aldo via split decision.

UFC News: Sandhagen Looking To Put Down Marker

Sandhagen will see this fight as a huge opportunity to show that he is ready for a title opportunity. He has only been a professional for five years, but his skill is unquestionable. Sandhagen is ranked as the fourth best fighter in the bantamweight division, and comes into this fight with an impressive 12-2 record.

He has been competing in the UFC for two years now, with his first fight ending in victory against Austin Arnett. Sandhagen has won five of his six UFC fights, with his only defeat coming in his most recent outing.

That defeat came against Aljamain Sterling, as he was beaten inside the first round by submission. His response will be huge, as another defeat could see him slide further down the rankings. Meanwhile, a victory over the talented Moraes could see him enter the title discussion.
