UFC News: Conor McGregor To Fight Dustin Poirier, But Will It Be A Charity Event Or Under UFC Banner?

Social media went into a frenzy this week, as it was revealed that fight fans would be seeing Conor McGregor return to action, albeit in a charity fight. McGregor was looking for a fighter to take him up on his challenge, which Dustin Poirier eventually did. It looked as though a mega-sparring session had been organised in Ireland for December.

There was even a poster revealed by McGregor, which also announced that the fight would be free to air. However, Dana White could now have plans of his own, as he has officially revealed that he has offered the pair the chance to have their rematch in UFC.

UFC News: What Happens Next?

The honest answer to this is that nobody really knows. It will likely come down to the money involved to make the fight happen, and whether the proceeds that were meant to be going to charity still will.

Either way, it would seem as though a December date for the fight could be too soon to take place in the UFC. Of course, it isn’t a given that McGregor will accept White’s offer, as the two of them have been locking horns all week on social media.

However, White seemed positive that the fight would happen under the UFC banner when speaking to Barstool Sports, but he did reveal that he was waiting for a response from both men before making the fight official.

UFC News: Poirier Accepts Offer

It would appear that White is just waiting for one more ‘yes’ now, after Poirier commented on the social media posts by clearly answering ‘I Accept’.

There will be no predicting what McGregor’s response to the offer will be, but the Irishman has reiterated over the past couple of weeks that he wants to get back into the octagon as soon as possible.

White has been holding back the date, largely due to the money that he could stand to lose by having no fans in attendance for the PPV. However, it would now appear as though McGregor’s actions have forced the president’s hand, and the fight could be made official very soon.

It will be one of the biggest fights of the year, as Poirier will be looking for revenge following his first round knockout defeat to McGregor when they last met.
