If there’s anyone who knows how Simone Biles feels right now, it’s most definitely Aly Raisman. In fact, the former Olympics gymnast says that she feels “sick to my stomach” after hearing the news that Simone had withdrawn from the all-around women’s gymnastics final at the Tokyo Olympics. Here’s what she has to say.
During a virtual appearance on The Today Show earlier this week, Aly says that she definitely feels for her former teammate and friend Simone after she announced that she needed to take a break from the games. Aly said that the news is absolutely devastating, but at the same time understands where Simone is coming from.

“But I think it’s also just really important to think about how much pressure has been on her, and there’s only so much that someone can take. She’s human, and I think sometimes people forget that. And Simone, just like everyone else, is doing the best that she can,” Aly explained, reiterating her “complete devastation” over the situation.
NBC originally reported that the 24-year-old withdrew due to a mental health issue while USA Gymnastics later reported that it was a medical issue instead. Simone, meanwhile, says that she is doing fine physically in a statement she shared of her own.
She said, “Emotionally, that kind of varies on the time and moment. Coming to the Olympics and being head star isn’t an easy feat. I feel like I’m also not having as much fun. This Olympic Games, I wanted it to be for myself, but I came in and I felt like I was still doing it for other people. It hurts my heart that doing what I love has been kind of taken away from me to please other people.”
