ABC ‘The Bachelor Nation’ spoilers indicates that there’s a message for the film and entertainment industry, and it’s one that’s very loud and clear. After Rachel Lindsay said that she was ashamed to be associated with a franchise that had such little diversity in casting, there’s now a new petition circling around demanding that the hit ABC reality dating show cast a black lead. Here’s what you need to know.

During a virtual interview for After Buzz, Rachel noted that in over 40 seasons of the hit ABC soap, there has only been one black lead. She said, “You are almost on par to say you’re more likely to become the president of the United States than you are a black lead in this franchise. That’s insane. That’s ridiculous.”

According to Page Six, Bachelor Nation is now taking matters into their own hands. Amid protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death, many Bachelor Nation stars such as Nick Viall, JoJo Fletcher, Diggy Moreland, Nicole Lopez-Alvar and of course Rachel Lindsay, have shown support for a fan-generated Change.org petition calling on producers to cast their first black Bachelor for the upcoming season of the show.

“ABC and Warner Bros. have been producing Bachelor content for 18 years. During that time they’ve cast 40 season leads [for ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘The Bachelorette’], yet only one Black lead,” the petition states, referencing Lindsay of “The Bachelorette.” “This is unacceptable. As creators of one of the most popular and influential franchises on television, ABC and Warner Bros. have an opportunity and responsibility to feature Black, Indigenous, People of Color (“BIPOC”) relationships, families, and storylines. The franchise, and all those who represent it, should reflect and honor the racial diversity of our country–both in front of and behind the camera.”

As of press time, over 47,000 people have signed the petition and counting. So far producers for the show and ABC network execs have made no comments about the petition or what they are planning for Season 25 of the long running reality show. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
