ABC News has suspended ‘The View” host Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks following her comments on the Holocaust and saying it was “not about race.” While Whoopi came out and apologized, it wasn’t enough to save herself from a suspension.
“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments. While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.“
ABC News Suspends Whoopi Goldberg From ‘The View’ For Two Weeks After Holocaust Comments
Her comments about the Holocaust were abhorrent and saying it wasn’t about race is absolutely nutty and insane. After she said those things, several people obviously had something to say about it and while she apologized, many believed disciplinary action was still warranted.
This isn’t the first time she has said something terrible either. Back in 2009, she said that Roman Polanski was not guilty of a “rape-rape”, and also initially defended comedian Bill Cosby which she reversed eventually.
Ironically, the people calling for the cancellation of others have been facing a lot of it themselves lately. It’s a bit funny to see, however, I believe her comments warranted some kind of response. Though we can’t help but assume that if someone else had said this, she would be calling for them to be suspended.
I think a suspension is a correct response. While what she said is terrible, she definitely shouldn’t lose her job for it.
When you’re on a show like ‘The View’ and say something so ridiculous that the rest of the hosts are nearly speechless, you know you’ve said something absolutely crazy.
Goldberg says she regrets her comments. ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt also joined the program to educate Goldberg about the Holocaust.
