ABC ‘General Hospital’ spoilers finds that whenever a daytime television star makes a controversial comment, you can almost bet your bottom dollar that soap fans will have something to say about it. And that’s exactly what happened when former ‘General Hospital’ star Vinessa Antoine, who is best known for her role as Jordan Ashford, suggested that the soap world really isn’t a diverse place.
The actress recently said in an interview with TV Watercooler, “I thought that I would get to stay. It was quite a shocker for me. I never planned to leave the show. I was hoping to get to do what the other actors get to do…go on a little sabbatical. I knew that we were only going to be gone for the summer, so I thought maybe my character could go away on an undercover mission or fall into a coma. But they had other plans, which was out of my control.”

Of course, it didn’t take long for fans to respond. Quite a few of them left comments such as, “She’s 100% correct. No demographic group watches soaps more consistently than black women and GH has continually given them the shaft. I’m so sick of it,” along with, “In total agreement. It’s particularly egregious that GH is so white given that hospital staff in the United States is incredibly diverse. All of the shows could be improved with characters that aren’t white and upper middle class.”
Another fan put it this way, “Surely right now ‘General Hospital ‘is doing a better job with the African Americans on canvas than the other three soaps. Yet, at the time that Vinessa Antonie was there it was still limited in terms of number of cast members. So, she is not wrong about her experience anymore than Victoria Rowell who was not wrong about the going’s on at Y&R.”
