CBS ‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that fans of the famous soap are growing tired of the storylines and subpar writing. After having a lot of time off during quarantine, many thought it might get a bit better. However, the criticism continues. One upset fan wrote about the late Bill Bell and his writing partners Kay Alden and John F. Smith, furthering the idea that ‘The Young and the Restless’ hasn’t been as good since 2005.

One fan wrote on one of the latest clips on Y&R’s YouTube page, “Y&R died when the great late William J. Bell died.” While another wrote, “Oh good grief, all that time off didn’t make the writers any better”. Both comments received a lot of replies and it seems to be a general consensus, so what keeps us watching?

I will say as someone who writes, I got a lot of writing done during the quarantine. Were the show writers just sitting around the whole time? Sure, they couldn’t go to work and be in a writer’s room, but there are online platforms to do just this. Many writers use NaNoWriMo as a way to find writing groups every day.

While I don’t think it’s been particularly bad lately, it’s hard to ignore the criticism. It doesn’t seem to be as good as it could be, and that’s the worse part. Many fans agree on certain ideas and things that would work well and seem obvious, yet the writers do the opposite. Perhaps that’s the point. The writers are paying attention to what people think could happen and make sense but just write the opposite storyline.

I don’t know. At the end of the day, it’s all a matter of opinion.

What do you think? Has the writing fallen off the last 15 years? Let us know in the comments below.
